Home security and insurance after burglaries

I've been burgled twice in two years. How likely is it I'm a target? And are there any security measures I can take that will bring down my home insurance again?

"Hi Sarath,

I’m sorry to hear you’ve been burgled twice, do you have any home security? As if you don’t this may make you an easy target.

My advice would be to reach out to a local security expert (someone that specialises in security and is accredited) and look at getting an intruder alarm and cctv installed.

Bear in mind the systems that are compatible with insurance companies are professional grade systems and be prepared to spend a few thousand for the system.

These are designed to be preventative and stop intruders in the first place so it’s not something to cheap out on.

Many Thanks

Joe"

"Yes,

you can install a class 2 intruder alarm system with cctv, you will be given installation certificates for your insurer.

Kind Regards

"The best way to lower your insurance is by ensuring that your home is well protected.
This could be either by using a two way doorbell, CCTV cameras or a reputable company providing alarm response.
I would recommend contacting your local Neighbourhood Watch as they also have further security information for your information."

"Hi
Starting poInt would be to make sure windows and doors have adequate locks (BS standard)
Deterrents like good lighting, signage, cctv etc can all help.
We would be happy to advise further free of charge if you’d like to contact us

"Definitely fit an alarm they can be configured with a delay so if you have police monitoring it's likely they'll be caught, insurance companies give discounts for approved alarm systems installed by an SSAIB or NSI company."

"I would always recommend a home security alarm, if professional installed it can reduce your premium when declared to your insurance company, unfortunately CCTV and video doorbells do not have any effect and won't bring down the insurance."

"Sorry to hear that you've been burgled, there are many thing you can do to secure your property and to not make it too tempting for thieves. not too sure about the layout of your property, but simple thing can have a deterant, If you have large amounts of shrubbery around your property cut it back a way from the property, install outside secuurity lights which work from PIR Sensor, install Window locks install an alarm and CCTV will all act a as a deterant, There is nothing on the market that will guarrentee you won't be burgled all you can do is make your property less appealing to burgulars and opertunists. Try speaking with your local crime leasion office via your local police station"

"Hi the most effective way to deter burglars is an up to date burglar alarm and 1 or 2 cameras which have either a siren or flashing lights once a human has been detected, unfortunatley non of the above will bring your insurance back down but will definatley givr you peace of mind"
