Help with dishwasher issue
We have just discovered that there is pipework and electrical socket in the way to a full size dishwasher (either integrated or freestanding. The width and height are fine but it’s the depth. Is this a cheap job to sort? We need to move the pipes out of the way, move the electrical socket to an alternative cupboard and also remove a section from the wooden support holding the worktop.

"I can only say that is the pipe work another appliance or is it going to another part of the house? Normally most plumbers would have the valves for the d/w & w/m in the sink unit if possible but either way the socket & pipe work should be able to be moved.

"Hi there, so you’ve got to break down the jobs individually how long they will take. To move pipe work, you need to cut back the pipe and re-install the relevant connections, this will require you to isolate the water, this would probably take maximum an hour. The moving of the plug socket, will require you to isolate the power, chasing the cable supplying to the socket back to the new position and you’ll need to re-install the socket mounting box, wire up the face place, this would probably take maximum one hour and a half. The removal of the wooden support 30 minutes. Altogether it’ll cost £270 for 3 hours labour at £90 an hour."

"Hi there! Here’s a breakdown of the jobs and estimated times:
1. **Moving Pipe Work**: This involves cutting back the pipe and reinstalling the connections, which will require isolating the water. This should take about an hour or more.
2. **Moving the Plug Socket**: For this, we’ll need to isolate the power, chase the cable to the new position, and reinstall the socket mounting box. This will take around 1.5 hours approx.
3. **Removing the Wooden Support**: This task should take approximately 30-40 minutes**.
In total, that’s half a days work approx. The total cost will be £200. Any questions, welcome."

"1. Moving the Pipes (Plumbing Work)
What Needs to Be Done:
The pipes (e.g., water supply and waste pipes) blocking the dishwasher space will need to be relocated.
This involves cutting and re-routing the pipes, which may require opening up the walls or floor to access them.
Cost Estimate:
Simple Re-routing: £100–£250 (depending on how much re-routing is required and whether it involves any structural work).
Complex Work: £250–£500 if extensive plumbing work or new fittings are needed.
---
2. Moving the Electrical Socket (Electrical Work)
What Needs to Be Done:
The electrical socket will need to be repositioned into another cupboard or a more suitable location.
This involves safely disconnecting the socket, extending the wiring, and installing a new box and socket in the new location.
Cost Estimate:
Simple Socket Move: £80–£150 (if it's a straightforward relocation and re-wiring).
Complex Rewiring: £150–£250 (if the wiring needs to be extended or upgraded, or if the socket is on a separate circuit).
---
3. Modifying the Wooden Support (Carpentry Work)
What Needs to Be Done:
A section of the wooden support (which is likely holding the worktop) will need to be cut or trimmed to allow the dishwasher to fit.
Depending on the design of the cabinet and countertop, this could involve removing part of the support structure or adjusting the cabinetry.
Cost Estimate:
Simple Adjustment: £50–£150 (if it’s just a small section that needs to be removed).
More Extensive Modification: £150–£250 (if it involves structural adjustments or reinforcing the support afterward).
---
Total Cost Estimate
For all three tasks (plumbing, electrical, and carpentry), the total cost could range from £300 to £1,000, depending on the complexity and labor involved. If the work is relatively simple and you have access to the pipes, socket, and cabinetry, it might be on the lower end. However, if major structural adjustments or rewiring are needed, the cost could be higher."

"It appears that my colleagues above love to work “Ad maiorem Dei gloriam” with their low estimates
Pipe/cable wall chasing (hiding pipes under the plaster) is simple, but considering that we are working in an already established kitchen, it involves dusty work on your knees and inside the dark cupboard.
Pipe and pipe insulation, cable trunking/protection. Actual connections (soldered! not tectite!), safe isolation, bit of plaster and the lick of paint to take at least minimal pride in your own quality work..... I would price it at around £350-400 (that includes the materials)"
