"You can grow them in large pots but I find they grow better in the ground as the roots can spread more to get more nutrients for the tree to grow healthy"

"You can grow apple trees in a container. You just have to be willing to maintain it. As it will rely on a smaller surface area of water collection, you'd need to ensure it is watered through Summer months. Due to less resources for the tree to use, you would experience less fruit than if it grew naturally. I have a small apple tree in a container. It will not grow and develop as well as those in the ground, but it doesn't matter if that is not a preference or priority. It will still establish slowly over time. Also each year add a layer of soil/compost to the top of the soil."

"The apple tree will grow to its surroundings, so for example, it will grow to its pot size, if put straight into the ground it will grow larger, so not pot bound"

"Some trees yes, but you have to look at label referring to the rootstock. This system is a more reliable method for determining if the tree will do well in a container. Look for a tree that is grafted onto P-22, M-27, M-9, or M-26 rootstock.
