It depends on the make and model and also how old the unit is. Sometimes its better to fit a new hob with warrenty due to labour and parts prices.It all depends and every case is different.

There’s damp in the ignition either the ignition button or the gas taps

You have a sticky ignition button/knob(s) which is stuck in the on position...

Check ignition button isn't stuck.
Make sure no grease or dirt stuck under it.
Give the hob a clean if needed.
Could be water moisture related. 
If possible turn off electric to hob when not in use and call a gas engineer out.

Could be water damage into the ignition. When cleaning the hob be carful around the electrics part.

Could be ignition is stuck in the open position causing the clicking sound, Try turning the power off to job and then back on if it continues you'll most likely need a repair/replace the hob
