Fix door lock (handle and key type)

Please may I have an idea of the cost of fixing inner porch door lock. Handle turns but key won’t turn to secure lock. Probably requires removal of metal strip to fix mechanism. Looks like a simple job which I can’t manage.

"Good afternoon Jane,

Assuming this is a UPVC door or sliding patio door, it will most likely be a euro cylinder type lock (the one that looks like a keyhole shape)

These tend to be the fault when it comes to a jammed lock being unable to turn. The fact that it won’t lock means it will be a lot easier to remove the existing cylinder and replace for a new one which will almost certainly solve the problem. Been cylinders range from £5 all the way upto £50. A decent mid range one (such as a Yale brand) will cost around £20. Plus fitting time the whole job shouldn’t cost you more than £50-£75 total. I hope this helps and if I can be of anymore help please feel free to contact me."

"It could be a simple fix , but if the lock mechanism is u/s then it will need replacing.
Locksmiths vary with their charges. Don't do an emergency call out as it will cost more. £25 -£50"

"I would guess around £100 great British pounds, give or take depending on if you want a cheap barrel or not"

"Roughly £100-150 depending on type/style of door, You may find it separates into sections I.e door cartridge, lock and handle in that case you may just be able to change the part that is broken.

Thanks BPS"

"I am assuming this is a UPVC door and it could be either the lock or the sliding mechanism (espagnolette) or even the door needs adjusting as if it is out slightly it will not allow the slider to engage properly which in turn would not allow the key to lock the door. It would need a visit to check which part is at fault to rectify this."

"£40 - £80 depending on the lock and what is actually wrong with it. Sometimes these can be fixed rather than replaced."
