Fitting a Dual Fuel Range Cooker

Hello! I'm replacing my 4 plate Hotpoint gas cooker (60cm;
Electrical Load = 4.93kW) with a 6 plate Duel Fuel ILVE range cooker (100cm, Electrical Load = 5.1(kW). Can I use the same cooker socket I'm currently using, or do I need a higher voltage socket? Also, is this possible to self-instal, or does it need an electrician? Thanks, Christine

"For a dual fuel range cooker costing over £1000 with a 7.3 kW load, the cooker circuit should use a 6 mm cable and be protected by a 32A MCB. Additionally, the circuit should be safeguarded by an RCD. The best consumer unit for this setup should include an SPD (Surge Protection Device)."

"Hi there,

5.1 kW is approximatley 23 Amps, cooker circuits are generaly designed to be rated at 32 Amps.
The load rating of the circuit is only one of many considerations, the circuit should be inspected and tested by a qualified electrician to confirm it is suitable and safe for continued use."

"As long as you have a cooker point supplied 32 amp MCB fed with 6mm cable it’s ok but you can’t plug it on kitchen ring"

"Hi You will need an electrician and a gas engineer plus they would both need the installation instructions from the manufacturer."

"If the Supply cable to the Cooker switch is 6mm or even 4mm, you should be ok with this. The Fuse or MCB for this circuit should be 30/32amp & yes it would be advisable to contact an Electrician for Installation & perhaps further advice."

"Ad1. Since this exceeds the 4.93 kW load of your previous Hotpoint gas cooker, you’ll need to check if your existing cooker socket can handle the higher load. Here are the steps to determine compatibility:
Check the Socket Rating: Look at your current cooker socket. It should have a rating (usually in amps) marked on it. Common ratings are 32A or 40A. If it’s rated for 32A, it might not be sufficient for the ILVE cooker’s load.
Calculate the Required Amperage: To calculate the required amperage, divide the electrical load (5.1 kW) by the voltage (usually 230V in the UK).
Required amperage = Electrical load (kW) / Voltage (V)
Required amperage
=
5.1

kW
230

V

22.2

A
Required amperage=
230V
5.1kW

≈22.2A

Compare with Socket Rating: If your existing socket is rated for 32A or higher, it should be suitable. However, if it’s rated lower (e.g., 20A), you’ll need to upgrade to a higher-rated socket.
Consult a Professional: For safety and compliance, consult an electrician or a qualified professional. They can assess your wiring, socket, and make any necessary adjustments.
Remember, safety is paramount when dealing with electrical installations. Always seek professional advice to ensure proper installation and avoid any risks2
If you’re unsure, I recommend contacting an electrician to assess your specific setup and provide personalized guidance. They can verify whether your existing socket is compatible or if you need to upgrade to a higher-rated one"

"Christine,
This should be fine to change 1 for 1. You should use a qualified electrician to change this over. Happy to give you a free estimate. You would be covered if something went wrong then. Kind regards Nigel"

"your new cooker loading is 22 amps so you need 22amps or above your old cooker was 20 amps .so yes the same supply should be fine.you could do it yourself but personally I’d get a electrician to do it just be on the safe side and for peice of mind"
