First floor external air vents

Hi,
Is it ok to block up first floor external air vents?
They let in cold air and outside noise.
What's the best way to do this?
Feels like it could be a DIY/handy person job.
What materials should be used.
Many thanks.
AL

"It is fine to block up the airvent, as long as it's not in use please make sure your boiler or fireplace is not using this for ventilation or any other reason than you'll be fine to brick up both sides with bricks and mortar Ben Plasterer the inside and finish off the outside with your desired finish this is a handyman job."

"This isn't possible to answer without looking into what they are venting you need a builder to check it out first

Air bricks are used to vent floors either block and beam or timbre floors

In old buildings they are clay for walls to breathe witch in my opinion can let water in and cause problems it's self"

"No it's not okay to block as they are there for a purpose"

"The short answer is no its not ok, they are there for a reason.
and blocking could well end up causing you bigger problems than a cool breeze."

"Well Cedric, very much dependent on why the air bricks are there in the first place.
They are normally installed if you have a gas fire or boiler which will use up all oxygen in a sealed room."

"Hi Al ,
I agree with answer from JB Brickwork but also be aware that on older builds " anything before 1990" most dont have cavities & the air bricks are they to stop condensation " sweating ".
I have been to lots of properties where they are experiencing this problem after they had vents sealed up. BEST SOLUTION IS TO KEEP VENTS LIVE & HAVE INSULATION PLASTERBOARDS FITTED ON BATONS TO KEEP HEAT IN , DROWN OUT NOISE AND ALLOW WALLS TO STILL BREATH."

"Blocking up first-floor external air vents can be done, but it's important to ensure proper ventilation in the house. Consider installing alternative ventilation options like trickle vents to maintain airflow. For blocking the vents, materials like foam insulation, or vent covers can be used"

". This approach isn't recommended and can lead to all sorts of problems down the line. We suggest you leave the vents in place and seal any gaps in the floor joists, so the draft remains under the floor."
