EXTERIOR SOIL STACK PIPE

Hi, My vertical soil stack pipe that carries the toilet waste from the upper levels of my house to the underground drainage system is seeping water from all the joints. All the seals look corroded and need replacing. Also the joint at the ground floor window level is slowly being pushed apart. Its pushing outwards. There is no bracket fixing it to the wall. The pipe is not solid in the ground, it moves. Could the joint that is pulling apart just be fixed by fixing a bracket to the wall and/or should the pipe be moving in the ground and if not how does that get fixed? I have been told that I should ask a plumber. Would be grateful for any advice. Thanks.

"Ideally this would need replaced from the ground up. The pipe work coming out of the ground should not be moving at all. A bracket isn't going to solve the problem. The ring seals will all be compromised now."

"Hi Helen. Firstly I would say you would probably be better at getting someone to come out and have a look at the issue first. The pipes should not be moving or leaking. Our company is more than happy to come and out and have a look for you and give you advice on moving forward, We are looking five star rated company.

Kind regards

"The best idea is to replace from the ground.Fixing just the bracket is not going to solve the problem."

"The pipework should always be bracketed to stop any movement - The pipework in the ground or underground should have fixed sealed joints & supported so the weight of soil does not break any underground joints ."

"The pipe should not be leaking from any joints and it should be solid in the ground if its an old cast iron pipe probably will need to replace all pipework and dig up and replace underground aswell"

"You need a plumber plus mate as this will be a two man job. From what you say the whole pipe will need replacement from the ground up. If nothing is done it could come apart leaving no sewage system for the house.

"You potentially have a blockage if all the joiare leaking as waste/water should only pass through the soil pipe and shoudnt be held in it."

"If the joints are push fit. Rather than solvent wield joints it may a simple job of pushing then back together and putting clips to secure the pipes so it doesn't happen anymore"

"To fix this, the work may involve:

Replacing worn seals or sections of the soil stack.
Securing the joint at window level with a bracket to prevent further movement.
Checking and securing the base connection to ensure the pipe is properly supported and not shifting.
We can inspect the issue and carry out the necessary repairs to get your system working properly again. Let us know a convenient time, and we’d be happy to provide a quote."

"Good evening. In order to understand this problem, you need to inspect all the connections. The pipe should not move. It should be pushed up and fixed with clamps so that the connections do not slide down."
