ESI Thermostat Replacement

I have recently moved into a new build and was looking at replacing the thermostats with smart ones to control the heating from my phone. I have 2 heating zones with a wall mounted ESI ESRTP6C thermostat in each zone. While looking at thermostats I noticed that ESI have a smart version of the same unit I already have, so I was wondering if it would be possible to swap the thermostats out?

The only difference I've noticed is that it look like its made of 2 parts, the thermostat and a receiver unit. I had a look around my boiler and couldn't find a receiver unit for my current thermostats. The only thing I have is a white box which I think is just a power supply and controller for the zone pumps?

I'm unsure if my thermostat setup is compatible with ESIs smart thermostats, or any thermostats for that matter? I wanted to make sure it was feasible before buying the thermostats. Also does anyone have any experience with ESI smart thermostats and are they worth it over the Hive thermostat?

"Hi, yes this can be done. It’ll be an S plan wired system most likely, the receiver units can be wired into the wiring box you’ve mentioned, the actual unit itself will have batteries so won’t be hardwired, only the receiver will be hardwired."

"Personally I’d go with hive. Your current ones are probably hard wired hence no receiver and just the white wiring center ( box )"

"Hello, I’d say the best option would be to go for the hive. In terms of labour they’d require pretty much the same labour (both would need to be wired in as you would need to replace the ESI receiver aswell) so it would be the cost of the actual unit however the hive is tried and tested a lot more than the ESI"

"I have only fitted a few of the 2 part smart thermostat,s and the smaller of the two parts is fitted next to the boiler and the controller is connected to the smaller part but I think they need to make the 2 in one unit as it looks like it could be like a zone system as well"

"Hive thermostat is a lot better to use, your current ESI should have another box at or near the boiler, you didn't say what kind of heating system you have but if you have a hot water cylinder , the receiver box may be located there too. Ok my mistake your on a system so yes the esi box can be in the same area as the hot water tank. If you have hot water, heating far radiators and underfloor Heating then you will need a double control for the hot water and heating then a single for the underfloor Heating."
