Ensuring loft conversion is fire safe

How can I make sure my loft conversion is as fire safe as possible? I'm planning to use the space for children's bedrooms.

"Fire door is fitted either at the bottom of the stairs or at the top
Ceilings down stairs are either fire board of double boarded with the correct insulation in between the joists and an a fire scape either dormer window or velux which is to a fire escape to regs but all this should of bin done to pass building control and fire alarms through out"

"If you fit a smoke alarm and fire door to the bottom of the stairs and have a window as means of access for the fire department then this will be all good"

"The best way is to have a electrician do an inspection to survey"

"Lots of variables. How long has it been converted . Is there a consealed staircase going to attic. Then that would need at least a fd30 fire door, are the walls fireproof boards, if not you can paint them with fireproof retardant paint. And all doors opening into a room apart from the bathroom need to be fire doors on every floor"

"You can treat the joists with a fire retardant most if not all insurlation is fire safety and use pink fire pladter boards"

"Fire doors are a big thing for building inspectors. If you go up to a third floor (loft) all the doors throughout the house have to be change to fire doors except bathrooms and utility rooms. this can add up to a lot of money. Another key is make sure you wrap all steels in pink (fire) plaster board. This is a priority to the fire inspector, as in heat steels buckle a lot quicker than you would think and will be structurally unstable in a lot quicker time than timber ever would. When you fit fire doors make sure the linings are backed with pink (fire) foam and fire doorstops are also installed. these are but a few precautions, but please do get advice from a fire inspector its free and easy to get.

I hope this helps
