The durability of a real magna clean filter is very good the pre long the boiler as well just make sure you get it cleaned every year when you get boiler serviced

Really depends on 1. Water quality in your heating system whether it’s clean or has any inhibitor or cleaner in there. 2. They should be checked and cleaned on every boiler service, seals do leak. 
If these 2 things are ok then easily 5 years plus

Magnetic filters are essentially a Magnet that protects your heating system and boiler by removing metal filings and protecting working components like heat exchangers, pumps, valves etc.

My best analogy of a Magnetic filter is that they are much like the pawns on a chess board, they are there to protect the queen and more valuable pieces.
