Dry verge install

Traders on here have been very helpful in the past, hope you can be again.

This question is in 2 parts really. I recently had a dry verge installed that was quoted at £650, and was then told that the felt behind the mortar had deteriorated badly so I needed 2 m of new felt and batten which would take 2 days. I was left with a bill for £2.5k, after the work was done in a day. Does this seem fair?

The second part of this question is that the dry verge looks very wonky. My understanding is that it should look relatively flush and straight and shouldn't really deviate. Is this right? It looks worst at the peak of the roof where it appears to tilt away from the roof.

"No not at all all they have done is extend your batton so can prob nail your dry verge to lol it should be screwed and as for the Wookey bit prob where they haven't fitted and just slotted in as they interlock"

"Driver systems are a very good idea providing you use a string line to make sure it is dead straight estimated cost for something like this would be between £650 and £900 with Scaffolding as well for safety purposes. It sounds like the people that you got in decided to rip you off and tell you there was more problems with the roof once I started always make sure You see photo evidence of any work that needs to be done before you agree it"

"It should be straight but if it is going off a brickwork wall it has to be tight to the wall with the felt work that seems reasonable"

"For starters, you were overcharged.
Drive verge show a costume between 6 and 700 pounds and.
2 m of felt and battens.
Max 300 pounds."

"Dry verge systems completed by my team are never wonky, the reason for this is because either, the battens have not been cut back to a correct length for the verge cover. (25mm overhang MAX) or the other reason would be that the tile it is covering is not cut to the correct width.

when installing dry verge systems you must ensure everything is the same length from top to bottom then once they are screwed into the edge of the battens an interlocked together they should all sit straight & flat, no gaps should be seen from the underneath, the inside edge of the verge cover should be tight to the fascia.

£650 is not a bad price for a dry verge system installation, but an additional £1900 for 2m of felt and batten seems a little steep, our team would have the works done completed in a day. but seeing as you have had a first part of work we would've done the 2m of work at a much lower rate. £1250-£1500 seems like a fair price for the added work, but all this also depends off scaffolding was included."

"Hi

This doesn’t seem right to me and i am fully qualified roofer for 15+ years. Did they remove your gable tiles completely and replace with new felt etc? Should be able to see from in your loft. Depending on your location i could potentially take a look at there work and advise further? Seems overpriced too"

"For the first question if it was both side as in front and back on one side then that’s a fire prices and for the second question that abit dear for a days work would only cost about 200 for miterils aye would have priced it at £1700 as 2/3 boys on it for the day plus insurances van cost but not a 2.5k job unless replacing the the old Borad for new one"

"Hi you should have been quoted at 1st inspection that you need felt and batten ,because the battens need extending to fit dry verge to even ,and you are right it should be no wonky Ness"

"£2500 is far excessive for original cost the felt replacement is normally part of the job if it is done correctly.Theres 2 types of dru verge the continuous which is far better than the individual cloaking which does if not fitted correct will look uneven sounds to like you’ve had an inexperienced roofer charging extortionate amount of money"
