"These are semi structural as that close the roof space of and if they start to rot then they will then stay to rot the rafters and allow birds to enter the roof space"

"On a dormer window, the barge board is fitted normally just for weathering and to provide a face for the tiles to sit on. There should be a rafter behind the barge board which normally the barge board is fitted to."

"The barge board on dormers will have the first row of tiles resting on it. It may also have a facia over vent too. Ultimately they are non structural but do have some structural responsibilities, they also provide the support for the guttering."

"Not decorative. Whilst can look good. Especially ifreplace lead. They have crucial roll. The top slate or tile used to clad dorma or e en pvc linning board has to have a fixing which is covered by barge board /flashing. . Secondly the barge board is providing a finish to a section of dorma meeting roof or cheeks. Again providing a solid finish for roof drip or gutter fixing."
