Do plans come as a hard copy or on a computer file?

When an architect draws up plans, do they come on paper as a hard copy or as a computer file? Or both?

"When submitting the planning application, you need to upload digital files of the drawings onto planning portal, so your architect should provide you with digital files. Architects usually print the drawings on paper when meeting with the clients in person because it is easier for them to sketch and discuss the design with the clients."

"Dear Carole,
The drawings can be produced both in PDF format and as hard copies.
But applications are always digital so PDFs are normally submitted."

"They come as a computer file that you can print off because usually they will be a PDF."
