Do I need a waterproof membrane?

I am looking to get a tiler to repair my shower which has been leaking through the grouting. If I get the whole shower retiled, would it be a good idea to get a waterprooof membrane?

"If the tiles are on plasterboard then I recommend re boarding it with wedi board and tank the joints with mapai waterproofing kit.

If you want to boarding it with plasterboard then you tank the joints the same way as wedi but you also tank the face of the boards too as they’re are not waterproof."

"If your going to be removing the tiles ,check and make sure the plaster board are green aqua boards, then use a mapei tanking kit before you retile, and if you want to go.a little further then mapei do a kerapoxy epoxy tile grout it's more.expensie but it's non porous and resists mould and mildew growth.i hope this helps you some good juck"

"Yes , definitely if you get it tiled with good grout it will prevent any leaking
But you need to make sure there is no leak from the plumbing"

"A membrane can be used but can be awkward for walls, a liquid tanking that can be applied by roller is easier to install."

"Hi David, it's a wet area so yes definitely. I recommend Mapei or Ardex. Schlutter is best, but too expensive.
More importantly before you start, be 100% sure you've identified the leak cause."
