Do I need a special setup for a smart doorbell?

Is a smart video doorbell suitable for the current system/setup that I have? How can I tell? Thanks!

"Hello, if you have an existing doorbell wiring in place, you can use it but you’ll have to alter the wiring at the existing /old chime"

"If you already have a "wired" doorbell, with a chime, the existing setup can be modified to work with most "smart" doorbells, though an additional chime may be required. Failing that, if no wiring is in place, the installer will need to alter your setup to bring power to the new doorbell, either via the lighting, socket or a new circuit."

"There is no need for a special installation, but anyone who understands the device suitable for homes can do it"

"Hi Minesh,

Depending on the type of "smart" doorbell you choose, there may be no extra requirements or modifications for your home.

For instance - several vendors offer battery-powered "smart doorbells" - these could be added without any changes or additional wiring.

Hope this helps!

"Not you don't need to do anything special, so Just get power"

"Hi, in short no.
What you will need is a wireless internet connection.
A method of providing power.
Some doorbells are battery operated but be prepared to change the batteries every week.
Hard wired is better but think of a wiring route even though the wires are pretty small they are not something you want to trolling down your hall and onto your door."

"It depends on what your current setup is. If you have an existing wired doorbell and then usually it’s a straight swap. You probably want something like the ring video doorbell range or doorbell pro. If you don’t have an existing wired doorbell then the battery versions might be better as they’re less intrusive. The best way to tell is to look for a transformer which is usually a socket or smaller size box. Often it’s next to your consumer unit. If you have one of those you have a wired system currently."
