Do I need a bricklayer or builder?

I need a retaining wall rebuilding. Is it better to hire a builder or bricklayer? Is there a cost or skill difference between the two?

a typical builder will get a bricklayer in to do the work so just hire a bricky yourself and will save you money.

They're equally the same but a little different  
(1) a bricklayer is the one trained in this field  and can hired by a builder 
(2) a builder can be a qualified bricklayer who is running his own business or somebody who has experience in managing construction business. And when he got a job will hire an experienced bricklayer

Nine out of ten builder are bricklayers or they now of bricklayers so no there should be no difference in price

For a retainer wall ,personnel I would go with a bricklayer, cost should be the same.
Just depends  on what one will charge

You need primerely a qualified bricklayer/concreter this would be cheaper than a builder. Skill sets are probably the same but a bricklayer would be cheaper nonetheless.
