DIY Outside Tap

Hi, I'm looking to fit an outside tap, in the DIY shops I have seen kits with a flexible hose that goes through the wall and ones with a metal pipe, which is the best?

Thanks

"The flexible kit type generally have the connector screw and pierce the water pipe, this can cause an issue with the seal causing leaks, they are also more prone to damage as you’re inserting through the wall causing potential leaks into the cavity.
Remember to drill from the outside so you don’t cause the brickwork on the outside to blow out."

"Hi mark I would not recommend anybody to use the DIY flexible hose with the self drilling valve as so many are incorrectly fitted and are liable for leaking personally I would get it installed by a plumber and installed solid so you can be assured it is installed correctly."

"Get one with the copper and back plate attached and welded as one. Lots better."

"A copper pipe with a Union Bracket will be attached will be the better option. From there you can simply wind in your outside tap."

"Best to use metal pipes. Insulate the pipe on the way through the wall. The flexible hose kits aren’t a proper job. I hope this helps"

"These hoses that go through a wall and tap into a cold water main deliver very poor water pressure due to the size of the hole that taps into the supply , I would highly suggest staying away from these , the metal pipes that go through the wall and connect onto a cold mains are much better and would always fit these"

"Get a registered plumber to do it properly. Or you could end up with water leaks.

"They're ok but over time they corrode a lot quicker than a permanent fixture"

"Hi there, you would be better off with copper pipe through the wall and sleeved for a solid job. Looks better and will last you years."
