Creaking tree

Should I worry if a tree creaks a lot in windy weather?

"The creaking may or may not be actually coming from the bottom of the tree and thus not necessarily mean your tree is about to fall.

I think it is best to feel the trunk of the tree towards the roots as you will then be able to assess it's stability.

It may be best to get a professional... a tree doctor/ surgeon.

"Yes this means air and water have got into the crown and worked into a secondary growth which means it’s weaker at top heavy"

"All depends really. Could be a old creaky tree but can also mean serious decay. I would recommend getting it checked for safe keeping"

"I would definitely remove the tree and make sure the tree has no order on it first before any action."

"The odd creak in the wind is normal however if you are worried get someone to take a look is my advice"

"Most likely, this is a rubbing/crossing branch in the canopy of the tree. If you have any doubts ask for an opinion from a suitably qualified arboriculturist. A climbing inspection may be required if it cannot be viewed from the ground."

"Not necessarily as trees as trees will flex in windy weather and the creaking sound is usually when some of the flexing branches come into contact with each other."
