Cost to rewire spotlights to central hanging light

Just bought a flat and before we re-plaster the ceilings we are considering changing the spotlights in the living room and possibly two bedrooms to a central hanging light in each room.

Roughly how much would it cost to remove spotlights and rewire them to a central light per room?

"Depending on where you live you can get an Electrician for under £100 per day labour charges."

"Ignore the guy who says you can get an electrician for under £100 for the day. No electrician I know would work for that.

It’s a fairly straight forward job disconnecting the old downlighters and shouldn’t take an electrician all day to do this, you’re probably looking at £200 for the removal of the old lights and the install of new pendants.

Also don’t forget this will need a minor work’s certificate as this needs to be registered with a governing body as your amending the wiring there will be many “electricians” who will not sign of work so be careful on who you choose.

Uncertified electrical works are likely to be in breach of local authority regulations. The local council may require you to have the work redone. They could also force you to remove or alter the works. In addition, you could also face a fine."

"Assuming you bought the items you need. Just the labour should not be more than 100£."

"It depends how easy it is to reposition the existing cables for each room, if you can get access to them from above, otherwise, if you say the ceilings are getting plastered I can easily do that in about 2 hours £80"

"Depends on a lot of factors, rcd/rcbo in cu. Earth on existing circuit, type of new fitting, condition of cable etc, you would be better asking someone round to give an estimate"

"Hi there,
It’s better to have a meeting to have a look at the job but I think it’s about 50.00£ per spotlight.
If you have any questions don’t estimate to contact me.

Best Regards

"How long is a piece of string??
All depends how it has been wired, ground floor or acres from loft, old house or new house, these things all make a difference, but I would say under £100 depending on where you live, access to parking etc. if it’s London forget it!!"
