Checking handyman competency

As most handymen or general maintenance people aren't always qualified in a profession, what's the best way to be sure they're competent to carry out small tiling and woodwork jobs?

"Always quick reviews and references if ots sounds iffy walk away.
Most handy people start basic and if its too cheap there a reason. Personally I give my clients an invoice / quote which always has my personal business address and Web links etc. This shows I'm a geniune maintenance person."

"I myself have a business page with all photos 📸of jobs, professions that I do all listed, with all recommendations from customers. And a real professional Handyman would never agree to job that they are not competent in doing 💯🤝🏻.
Thanks.
