Changing Window to Door and Window

Hello,

Do I need Planning permission to change a current window to a door and window using the existing opening and bricking up the old back door?
Also what costs would I be looking at , the opening is 1800mm wide and would be a single glazed door and then a new window to fit the left over opening.
Thank you

"Unless you’re in a conservation area or live in a listed building you would not need any permission."

"No planning would be required unless you're in a conservation area. Cost between 2.5k and 3.5k rough estimate without seeing the job. We're northwest based for pricing purposes. Price varies around the country."

"You should check with your local council regarding planning permission, as you could have problems in the future when selling the property if somethings not done currently.
Be pending on the style of door and window. Not including any lintels or building work, a fully glazed door with clear glass in a white upvc frame would be around £650 fitted. A window around 90cm wide and around 100cm high, with 1 opening and toughened safety glass which would be required due to being next to a door would be around £350 fitted.
A window removed and brickwork being removed to enable a door to be installed, making good the reveals with plasterboard and plaster ready to paint would be around £450 depending on there’s no electrical points or water pipes that need moving. There’s also added charges involved for making good the floor inside and outside. A step could be required outside, and flooring inside would need to be added where the wall was removed. A site survey and proper investigation of the job would be required to give a detailed quotation."

"No you wouldn't need planning permission, you would need to make sure it's passes fire safety and wide enough for a wheelchair"

"This should straight forward,if a property is in a conservation area or there are conditions on property where you may require consent.
Contact your local building control.
You need to ensure there is adequate structural support(lintel) in situ ."

"No you do not need planning permission for this and should be looking to pay between £1200-£1800 for full job inc materials"

"In the UK, planning permission is not usually required if you’re replacing a window with a door/window in the existing opening (no structural enlargement) and bricking up the old door, provided:

The property isn’t listed or in a conservation area.

The materials match the original (e.g., brickwork).

However, Building Regulations approval is required for:

Structural integrity (e.g., ensuring adequate support when bricking up the old door).

Thermal performance (new glazing must meet current U-value standards; single glazing may not comply—double glazing is typically required).

Safe exit (if the door is part of an escape route)."

"Hi Louise , this would depend on where you are in the country , as I am in Scotland i will give you the answer that would conform here , you do not need planning permission , what you will need is a building warrant , and the reason for this is that you are altering the structure of your home , it will not be flagged up until you try to sell the house , with the new buyer trying to take thousands of the cost of your home , for something so simple , if you are in Scotland speak with your local building control department , if you elsewhere in the UK the planning laws are a little bit more relaxed , hope that helps ."
