Changing oven plug socket to a hardwired one

Hi there,

I bought a Hob and Cooker package from Argos: https://www.argos.co.uk/product/9343366?clickPR=plp:1:3

On the website, it stated that the cooker is hardwired. When I received this, it came with a standard plug, however the hob itself has a hardwire connection to it.

My connection for this, is meant to be hardwired in - with a 6mm, 32amp connection for it.

I am based in South London. My question is:

1) Can the hob (6400W) and the oven (2100-2500w) be connected to the same outlet?
2) Is there anyway to remove the plug from the oven and have this hard wired?
3) How much would this likely cost?

Thank you

"The hob and oven CANT be connected to the same outlet you want a cooker outlet for the hob on its own circuit 6mm and the oven plugged into preferably a socket on a it’s own circuit aswell wired either 2.5m or 4m price will depend on the size of the job and what’s already installed"

"Hi Vince,

With diversity applied as per BS7671 both the cooker and the hob can fed from a 6mm cable, this would depend however on the cable route and length etc.

The cooker would ideally have the plug cut off and connected into a switched fuse spur. To note however this would void the appliance warranty by cutting the plug off.

It would cost more but you could install a spur then a socket which would alleviate the need to remove the plug top."

"Yes you can connect both of them on the cooker point 6400+2500w=8900w/230v=38X0.8=30amp
That will cost you 100£ if you call a local electrician"

"In my opinion, the oven needs to remain with the plug on, as it requires the 13amp fuse protection. Your hob should be hard wired with a 6mm supply direct from your consumer unit and via a local isolator to the hob."

"Yes you can hob have to be hard wired and oven could be plugged in socket same circuit I personally not recommend to cut plug off if manufacture supplied plug you can loose your warranty. Cost about 100£ to install new socket outlet if you don’t have one"

"Hi there

I would not recommend you do this as the oven only requires just over 10amps so if you cut the plug there will be no fuse for protection and if there was an issue you could hurt yourself.

This job should cost around £300 to install both."
