Changes to front porch

Hi there,

I just bought a house and there's a small porch and WC that was added to the original property. The wall beside the entrance door seems to be made of plywood on the bottom and the tip is made of glass. I'd like to have it changed to something that at least look like a proper wall, even if it's not. My question is: do I need a builder or a carpenter to do the job? Also, do I need planning permission for this change?
Thank you so much for any advice.
I'm also open to quotations if you feel you could do the job, please.

"If it’s an internal non load bearing partition then no building regs or planning should be required.

Builder / carpenter not strictly required either but you’ll likely get a better result than doing it yourself if it’s out of your comfort zone.

I recommend putting a listing on MJQ with photos to get some fee estimates."

"From the description it just sounds like a dividing wall so it won’t be supporting anything. A joiner would be your best bet and upon inspection they would be able to tell you more. Simple to remove, rebuild a timber stud which can be plastered boarded and plastered.

Hope this helps.

"Sounds like a job for a builder to quote on. Won't require planning though."

"It sounds like you're looking to upgrade the appearance of your porch wall, and I can definitely help with your questions.

### Builder or Carpenter?
- **Type of Professional:**
- A **carpenter** would be best suited for this job, especially if you want to replace or modify the existing structure with materials that look more like a traditional wall. If you're considering adding drywall, framing, or other wooden elements, a carpenter’s expertise will be valuable.
- If there are more structural changes involved or you need to address the foundation or other elements, a **builder** may be necessary. Sometimes, a combination of both professionals might be required.

### Planning Permission:
- **Planning Permission:**
- Whether or not you need planning permission depends on your local regulations and the extent of the changes you plan to make. Generally, minor changes to existing structures (such as cladding or minor alterations) may not require permission, but it's important to check with your local planning authority.
- If you are making significant structural changes or altering the use of the space, you may need permission.

### Additional Considerations:
- Before starting the project, it might be a good idea to consult with a professional who can evaluate your specific situation, give advice on materials, and ensure that the changes comply with local building codes.
- It's also wise to get multiple quotations from contractors to find the best option for your budget and needs."

"Hiya. By the sounds of what you have explained, it's not a supporting wall or any kind of structural wall.
So it should be fine to have it taken out/ replaced.
I'm a carpenter and I do this all the time. But your general builder with a good head on him will be fine.
You have a few choices of outcome design you can go for.
Timber study wall finished in cladding, T&G or shiplap.
Other choice that ks the most common wpuld be to brick it up.
Feel free to give me a message of you need any further help."

"You have a few opinions on whom to employ. Carpenter, builder or handyman. No you would not need planning permission.
