    Sharing neighbours scaffolding

My neighbour is having scaffolding put up on his roof. He's saying I could go 50/50 on the cost to have my chimney checked at the same time as it looks like it needs repointing If I used my own roofer to do the job would they be ok with using another contractors scaffolding? Hope someone s able to let me know.

Going from pitched roof to flat

Hello, I have a bungalow which has a small extension to the side running the length of the property. The flat roof on the extension is knackered. I want to take it all off and re-do the extension properly by building and replacing all the windows etc. Where the original house was the guttering is still on it and the flat roof is under the guttering. When i build the side extension do i need to keep this guttering or can i raise the roof a little and have it so the rain water runs straight off the house roof onto the flat roof then into the gutter of the flat roof? If not what else coudl i do?

    Judging Hip Ridges Health Status

hello , I think two my hip/ridge tiles has perished and need replacing. They have cracked half inch down or so. It is solidly embedded it seems. But others hip/ridge tiles, the top layer is only weathered and flaky but underlying ridge/hip is solidly embedded and loose. I'm planning to put a new roof in few years time and hence my question was which hip/ridges should be replaced now and which ones I can defer if at all I can defer. How do you decide which ones to alter as disturbing ridge/hip will break corner cemented underlying tiles. I have scaffolding in place. Guys are coming are giving various contradictary advise. Also How do I select a competent roofer over cow boys - as every one claims they can do the work. Many Thanks in Advance.

Can I lift a neighbours tile in order to repair our joint roof

We share a concrete tile roof with our neighbour with the boundary running between rafters on each of the properties. We suspected one of the rafters on our side was rotten and had our roof stripped down to find the extend of the damage, get it repaired and replace the tiles. We did advise the neighbour that the work was going to be carried out. However in order to replace the batons the contractor also removed a line of the neighbours tiles. The work was finished, everything replaced and no damage caused. I apologised for not informing their tiles would be lifted as I wasn't aware they would but the neighbour insists we shouldn't have touched their tiles and wants us to accept liability for any roof repairs they may need in the future. Was my contractor correct in what they did and was I obliged to give more notice I did?
