Is a water meter best for family of 4?

I’ve heard mixed reviews about water meters vs flat rate tariffs. We obviously don’t waste water but between 4 of us we use a fair amount each day. Is it cheaper to get a water meter installed?

    Outside tap fitting

I’m looking to fit an outside tap to the rear of my mid terrace property. The water main comes in from the front. I could spur it off the mains in the downstairs loo and run it under the floor of the hallway and lounge but obviously this means pulling up the carpets and floorboards. I also think it might need the sink and vanity unit removing to gain access under the floor in the cloakroom Would it be inadvisable to spur off the mains feed in the loft, put an isolator in the loft and run the pipe work down the outside of the house?

    Bath Sealant Problems

I'm having constant issues with the sealant around my bath. When I bought the house, it had not been sealed, the tiles had been grouted against the bath. I took this out, cleaned and sealed. But the sealant keeps failing, going mouldy and we've previously had leaks in to the room below, it also seems to leak through the shower screen as well. The tiles sit just over the bath at the tap end, where the problem is, and butt to the tiles at the other. I need to remove the sealant again for the 4th time but need to know what I'm doing wrong. I am removing all sealant, rubbing down with white spirit and weighted the bath last time to account for movement. Only a little water is getting behind, but the plasterboard is slightly damp so it needs sorting properly. Thanks

Radiators turning on when hot water used

Why do my radioators turn on when the hot water tap is turned on? We've turned the dial on the boiler to "water only" but it hasn't worked. We have an ideal combi boiler. Is this something we could fix ourselves or would we have to get a plumber in? If so, how much would this cost? Thanks. Much appreciated for any advise.

    Mains water stop

I just wonder when we change interior stop tap in property, shall we inform to water supply because we are using mains stop outside the road to stop water supply to house or is it Ok to carried out work without informing water supply authority? And also how do we find out if the mains stop valve supply water to only your property or your neighbours too?

    Overflow in loft tank

Question for any proper plumbers. Daughters loft tank overflow occasionally runs. I have replaced the ball valve & set it well below the overflow. However we notice that every so often it still overflows. I noticed it when i ran hot & cold in kitchen to clean a couple of rollers & today it happened when she ran a bath. Any ideas? Some sort of back flow? Its not all the time. TIA for any ideas / answers.

What should I do about a blocked sink drainpipe?

Hi all Today I had a blockage in my sink’s drain pipe – I decided to unblock it using some drain unblocker liquid, thinking the block may just be some leftovers that had gotten stuck somehow. Unfortunately, this hasn’t helped and now I have a blocked drain pipe with unblocking liquid in there too. Is there any way I could try and fix this myself or would I be best to ask a plumber to take a look?
