Hello, I’m in the stages of planning a loft conversion. It’s not a huge loft and will probably only fit a desk and will be used for storage. I was advised to install two velux windows as to start with so at least we can get some light. I will need separate staircase going into the loft, for which there is space to do so - would I need an architect to draw all this up?
I want an extension myself. Does he need to remove his conservatory? Also his trees are on the fence line. He said its been built on his side.
Could you explain to me what a velux conversion is and what it involves? How does it differ from other types of conversions?
Hey guys. Tell me about loft boards. Best types? Do I need legs/stilts for the boards? We are looking at laying boards down in attic for storage space. The insulation is really thick though and comes up higher than the joists so I don’t know how to proceed. What would be the best way to install loft boards over insulation, so they don’t push the insulation down?
I am considering a loft conversion by going into the loft by putting the velux windows. This would mean the staircase will be installed by taking space from a small room. Can you share a typical cost of such a lft conversion in London? How long would it take? I am assuming for a semi-detached house, you don't need planning permission but only satisfy the building control and presumeably a party wall.
How long after getting planning permission can we leave it until we start our loft conversion?
Is weight an issue for the house foundations when adding a big loft conversion?
What's the most important questions to ask when a specialist is assessing your loft for conversion?
Is it likely that a loft needs new joists before being converted? I guess this could vary a lot from house to house?
Can any attic undergo a conversion? In what cases can it and can it not? Are there any steps that may be needed in a scenario where an attic cant undergo a conversion, so that it can?
