About three or four light switches need to be replaced in my home. How much will this cost and approximately, how long will these replacement jobs take if by performed by a professional?
We are replacing a 3kw single oven with a 3.6kw single oven. The current oven is simply plugged in. Can we do the same with the new oven? If not how much will it cost to convert the existing socket to one suitable for a 3.6 kW oven?
I want to run power to my sectional concrete shed for lighting and sockets. Would I need to have the building insulated/lined with plywood first?
Hi, I'm a tenant and can only have smart switches installed in the property I'm renting if: 1. The install is made by a professional with a certificate that would be used for insurance purposes 2. The switches are removed after the tenancy with another certificate that everything is back to the initial condition. Costs are totally prohibitive for an installation that will be temporary in nature like this. What I would like to have answered instead would be if it is possible to make all the installs myself, go through the pain and time waste of ensuring everything works and only pay for the labor of having a qualified electrician come to check and certify that the install was made to the best UK standards. (Then, the same in reverse to verify and certify the removal and reinstall of the initial switches. Many thanks for your help!
Hi. Looking to get some advice on running power to a garden shed An uninsulated shed is around 25 meters from the rear of the house and the consumer unit/fuse box is at the front of the house which has no side access. Looking for advice on whether it is possible or advisable to run power from the kitchen to an uninsulated shed and what a ballpark might be for what is required. Have heard people say I could run power from the kitchen and run to another consumer unit in the shed. No idea if that’s correct…I have no electrical knowledge and would obviously get someone in. I may look in a few years to build a garden office but want a couple of sockets in the shed for power. Would be grateful for pointers and an idea on cost. If did the trench to the shed to save time and cost.
Hi, to get electrics to a garden office, what size 3 core SWA cable required? 16mm or 25mm? Garden office has 2kw panel heater, 8.5kw electric shower, 4 double sockets, a fridge/freezer unit, microwave, coffee machine, and 11 downlights. I calculated around 100amps usage at any one time. Distance from house fuze box to garden office around 30-40 meter. Half overground, half underground. Any other tips welcome. (i. e. 4 core better idea?) Thank you. P
Do I need an electrician & a plumber to have an electric shower fitted, or are there companies that will have both so I pay one price for the job, rather than get an electrician to do electrics then a plumber to do plumbing?
What can I do if I’m not sure how safely an electrician is working? What if I see signs that to me looks like they may not be doing things right?
How can I tell or know if someone is competent to perform electrics work in my house? Will they need some sort of certificate or qualification for example?
Can a registered/qualified electrician let another person who he claims is an electrician to do an electrical job in my property and self certify the electrical job when he was not supervising the friend/apparently an electrician the whole time but only in the morning telling him what has to be done and returning hours later when his friend has finished the electrical job? Also, he refuses to provide me any information if his friend is qualified and registered as a qualified electrician to do the job? Thank you.
