Treatment for old wood before use

I have lots of old wooden planks from a decking that was disassembled years ago. Long story short, some of them never made it to the tip and they’ve just been sitting in the shed. I would like to make something with them as a DIY project, might as well put them to use. Is there anything I’ll need to do first to ensure that they are not harmful, infested with bugs, etc.? They look fine on the surface but I want to be sure. What should I treat the wood with before using it as construction material for household fittings?
