Treatment for old wood before use

I have lots of old wooden planks from a decking that was disassembled years ago. Long story short, some of them never made it to the tip and they’ve just been sitting in the shed. I would like to make something with them as a DIY project, might as well put them to use. Is there anything I’ll need to do first to ensure that they are not harmful, infested with bugs, etc.? They look fine on the surface but I want to be sure. What should I treat the wood with before using it as construction material for household fittings?

Upgrading door parts to limit draught?

Would still upgrading parts of my doors (e.g. door knob, latches, hinges) help reduce draught along with other measures such as draught stoppers? In other words is upgrading door parts in of itself a way of reducing draught and weatherproofing door?

    Replacing Existing Wooden Claddingg

I need to replace the existing painted wooden vertical cladding to an old farm outbuilding. The boards are tongued and grooved. My father was a time served joiner - but, sadly, no longer with us. What basic things do I need to be mindful of ie. : 1 Thickness of boards. 2. Type of wood. 3 Space between boards to allow for expansion. 4 Preparation of boards before fixing - type of primer, paint etc. 5 Type of nails, screws etc for fixing. Many thanks for your advice. much appreciated
