my house has a conservatory on the back. Will I need to locate my damp proofing bricks before I higher the garden up or will it be ok to higher the patio to the highest step to the door.
Advice please how to block up a rear back garden door. Is it ok to brick up the outside and inside do a timber frame with plasterboard ? Will add insulation. Does this comply with Building Regulations ? Thanks
I’m looking to raise part of the ceiling in my kitchen, it’s not under a bedroom or other room as it’s in part of the front of the house that sticks out separately, almost like a front extension(?). It’s maybe a foot lower than the rest of the room and there’s one dividing wall to take into account. Would this be a fairly straightforward job or even possible?
Hi, I think is a question for a builder...but maybe it's for roofers. We are looking to buy a Victorian end terrace which has been rendered. Our surveyor's report has noted some cracking as well as poor, patchy repair work to the render & has recommended that we get this repaired. Would you expect a better result from a complete overhaul of the render - remove and replace - or would repair work be adequate? And how much would you expect it to cost? Thanks!
I wondered how much it would cost to build a fireplace wall, almost American style. The 'wall' would be around 200cm wide, floor to ceiling and would house an electric fireplace in the bottom and a recessed area for a TV. I am looking for a cost indication and a sense of time. If needed to helps I am based in Milton Keynes
Hi, We have a conservatory with tiled floors and polycarbonate roof. Can we convert that into an extension, that could also house a small wet room/toilet? If so, what are the steps we need to take (hire an architect? get planning permission)? Completely clueless about possibilities and what we need to do to get this happening. Thanks.
We have an existing conservatory (brick for the bottom 0.5m) attached to the rear of the house. We are exploring the idea of knocking through and creating a flat roof extension on the footprint of the conservatory. My question is, is it likely the conservatory footings will be suitable for an extension or will they need re-doing? Thank you
My neighbour has had his roof retiled, this required a bonding gutter to be fitted. On my side of the bonding gutter the roofer used expanded foam to fix the tiles to the gutter, no mortar was used in the centre of the bonding gutter to support the tiles, My believe this is in breach of the building regulations. Could one of your trades people help by informing me if this is against the building regulations. as expanded foam is highly inflammable it may also breach the regulations under the fire break section. Best Regards Mal smith
How much to core a standard 4" extractor fan hole through brickwork in a bathroom please? No other install needed. Just the hole cored.
I have a nearly square area of 5 x 5 metres right up to the boundary fences, which I am thinking of building living space, for use as office space and/or temporary living accommodation. I liken it to a studio apartment with kitchen, bathing, living, sleeping areas. What would be the best way to start exploring this project. Would I need planning, architectural services? Any advice would be appreciated at this stage.
