Boiler Heat Exchanger - fix or replace

I have a fourteen-year-old Worcester boiler that is leaking a bit. This has been diagnosed as a fault with the heat exchanger. The boiler is still working.

So, is it better to repair with a new heat exchanger or replace the boiler? Can someone give a rough estimate of the relative cost differential?

"Good evening, I would suggest limping through and putting money to one side for a new boiler. Spending money on labour and new heat exchanger doesn’t make sense for a boiler that old. You’re looking at 1500-2000 to exchange. Many thanks."

"This is a tough question to answer because it doesn't have a straightforward answer. We would call this kind of repair an uneconomical repair due to the cost of the new main heat exchanger and the age of the boiler overall. Add this with the labour costs and it normally works out better in the long run to get a new system that would come with the manufacturers warranties etc."

"At that age you really need to be getting priced to replace the boiler with a newer model, as has been previously stated by another engineer this is considered to be beyond economical repair, I would suggest a Worcester 2000 or a 4000 if its a larger property with 4 or more bedrooms with 2 or more bathrooms
Hope this helps"

"Hello , please obtain the model of the Worcester boiler to allow me to provide you with advice or a recommendation on a repair.
The GC Number of the appliance would also be helpful, this can be found either on the boilers data plate or alternatively on the boilers "Benchmark" form ( If completed)
Furthermore, do you have any additional information regarding the suspected fault with the Heat Exchanger?

"Hi there my name is Ali.
To repair a heat exchange is not worth it as it cost as much as to buy a new boiler to be honest you are better getting a new boiler and you will get five to ten years warranty for parts and labour from the manufacturer.if you are interested in a quote I can give you one no problem"

"Hi, your boilers getting old now. You generally find once something starts to go wrong other things follow and you throw good money after bad. I would recommend swap boiler.
Probably cost around £300 for heat exchanger
I could do swap for a baxi main 5 year warranty at around £1400."

"Heat exchangers can be replaced. However, depends on age, general condition, previous issues. You could spend around £500 for example on an aging problematic boiler that lets you down again. Say you have another big bill within the year, that money would have been better put into a new boiler with a warranty.

Hard to advise accurately without seeing the boiler.

"i its likely to be the plastic bits under the boiler leaking .
in all honesty any repair on a old boiler has to come in at a good price .
if for example you had a new boiler fitted its going to have a nice long warranty so you will have peace of mind for a good long while going forward."

"Since the life expectancy of a modern boiler is 12 - 15 years i would suggest that replacement is a better alternative. Heat-Tec specialize in this type of installation and can be contacted"

"It depends on the model of the worcester and also the it is still availble and not ab obsolate part.
Cost for the heat ex if its still available can be between
£250 to £550 and there is labour ontop for fitting it."
