What's the best way to keep weeds down? Gravel, bark or something else?

"To solve this issue i would recommend to treat the soil to get to the root as most ways are un effective & you will end up with weeds re sprouting, then i would apply with a weed killer, please be careful with this. then add sheeting & apply whichever stone material on top."

"Hi

Remove the 'weeds' you don't want by replanting with good ground cover, until you decide on more permanent plantings.

Weeds will eventually appear in gravel and bark. Cats have been known to poo on bark.

"Bark is best, but you need to keep topping up as is boi degrades, a weed mat and gravel will keep most thing at bay but you will still have to weed, due to the birds spreading the seeds. I like soil and planting an area up this keeps the weeds down and you have full beds. Or you can always hoe out the weeds every week or use vinegar"

"You will need to get a qualified weed sparayer as they can use a stronger weedkiller. The only thing is seeds from weeds will always grow after the weedkiller has killed the ones sprayed"

"To kill weeds, some amateur gardeners recommend combining salt, soap and vinegar. The gardening pros ahead their thoughts on this method. They said: “Together, these household items create a potent mixture to eliminate weeds to ensure they won't come back."

"Apply one cup of bleach, undiluted, to the afflicted area. Wait until the weeds turn brown before pulling them out of the ground. Run water around the area to flush the bleach, especially if you are trying to grow plants or grass in that area."

"Put down a weed proof membrane, such as Terram. Then cover with gravel or bark. Otherwise weeds will come through eventually. Or spray with roundup."
