Best tools for DIY exposing brick fireplace

What are the best tools to use when exposing the brickwork of a fireplace? We need to strip the plaster off and probably clean up and repoint the brickwork.

"Hi,
The best tool for removing plaster to expose the brickwork would be using a sds drill with hammer mode and a 2 inch bolster sds bit at a shallow angle.Chop out a small patch about 6" square then work away from there, hold the drill at a shallow angle and the plaster will come away easily."

"Just a good hammer and bolster is needed to expose the brickwork. If you use electric tools you could cause more damage to the bricks"

"I’d use a small kango. But be careful you could damage the brick work below. If not hard work but hammer and bolster lest damage. Then to clean the brick work up use a watered down acid."
