Can you tile over existing tiles or is it better to remove old tiles first

"It is good practice to remove old tiles first,but this needs doing correctly, not setting about with a hammer.
You can Tile over existing tiles with the correct adhesive if this doesn't effect levels or other such fittings etc."

"The main thing you have to be aware of is the weight limits of the substrate, taking into account the current wall covering.
Weight limits for tiling on to various substrates are simple to find on google.
Eg. What is the maximum weight per square meter for tiling on to..... plasterboard, plaster, block, brick, wedi board, concrete board, tile etc etc"

"Personally I would ALWAYS remove old tiles, proceed by making repairs to the wall as necessary, ideally fresh plaster/boarding.
You can get away with scraping off old adhesive if it is flakey and comes off with ease, as long as the plaster behind is in decent condition.
Tiling over tiles is lazy, but should cause too much trouble as long as the older tiles are still stuck firm."

"Hi I assume floor tiles ? if its all stable and height is ok yes it is possible to tile over floor better to remove wall tiles ."
