Do alkalis like caustic soda or acids work best to unblock drains?

Personally I would avoid using any of these products as if they aren't successful they can make the blockage worse.

Hi Adam, the only time acid should be used is for small pipework slow draining blockages. if acid is used on  solid blockage that is not slow draining and does not clear the blockage you will have a further problem with acid in the pipework which can be a hazard for anyone working on it. if you are talking about using it on a bigger pipe like a toilet or a 100mm pipe, I would not recommend as it is totally useless in most cases.

please note that drain acid is very dangerous stuff and can cause serious harm if used incorrectly, wear full protective equipment and never look directly over the plug hole when pouring it. even better I would advise you to leave it to a fully trained professional. I hope this helps

Best not to use acids as most pipes corrode and leak. Call a drainage company if you don't know how to clear it

No any acid product if out down sinks or wcs can corrod the waste pipe and cause it to leak and also scale the pipework which will cause further blockages

Yes they are in my opinion the only things that work try melt from Amazon , plz be careful and wear gloves and full eye protection and well ventilate the area as the fumes can scare your lungs very volatile substance but affective
