Smart Home Tech That Saves Time & Money
In the mid-2020s, many households have either already enhanced their home with smart tech or plan to in the near future. In this blog, we’ll look at some of the best types of smart home technology that can save time and money.
Let’s go!
1. Smart Thermostat
Having a smart thermostat installed can provide you with more control (often remotely too) of your heating system and allow your smart thermostat to benefit you financially.
Smart thermostats can also improve efficiency by adjusting your heating system’s output. This, in turn, might save you somewhere between £150 and £400 each year. Some of the best smart thermostats in 2024 include the Tado Smart Thermostat and the Honeywell Evohome Bundle.
2. Smart Light Bulbs
Another type of smart home technology that can help keep energy bills down is that of a smart light bulb. The features provided by smart light bulbs may include app or voice control and automatic adjustments based on your needs and preferences.
Smart light bulbs can also (for the reasons above) prove beneficial for those with visual impairments. Beyond that, light bulbs are better at saving time than money.
Smart lighting can (to one degree or another) limit or remove the need to turn on or off light bulbs directly while also potentially setting the mood just right by following your home’s lighting use patterns. That said, smart light bulbs alone may not offer much in the way of saving money.
3. Smart TV
Smart TVs can act as a great way of enhancing your home entertainment experience such as with increased convenience.
These TVs are connected to the internet, opening up a whole host of possibilities. Among the top aspects of smart televisions include the ability to use websites like YouTube and Instagram and the capacity to access streaming services like Netflix.
Smart TVs probably won’t save you any money, but they can save time and provide plenty of added convenience by giving you access to a wider range of possibilities than is possible with conventional TVs.
4. Smart Speaker
Smart speakers remain a popular option in 2024. Depending on the exact product being used, a smart speaker could offer a host of advantages including voice command querying (where the speaker will respond with an answer - something we all associate with Alexa and similar smart devices).
Smart speakers are also obviously great for streaming music and other online audio content (e.g. podcasts). A smart speaker might also be used to set an alarm and utilise multi-room audio usage thanks to the technology of a smart speaker.
A smart speaker can save plenty of time with all these benefits. It could also save you money if, for instance, you provide it with control over lighting, though this is really a smart speaker/smart lighting combined advantage.
Other more subtle ways in which one of these products might save you money is by reducing your need to use your phone, tablet, or/and laptop when you want to listen to music. That said, these savings would be negligible at best.
5. Smart Security Camera
A modern hi-tech security camera with smart elements can help reduce the risk of break-ins or at least (and hopefully this will never be needed) help identify and lead to the capture of a person or group if a break-in did occur.
Wireless smart security cameras can provide you with remote access and the capacity to monitor any activity outside of your home even when out and about. Security cameras with motion detection abilities can offer a proactive approach to securing your home, allowing you the chance to contact the authorities if someone has broken in while you’re not at home.
