Get Your Home Ready for Party Season

As summer has ended and we're now in autumn, there’s no harm in thinking about preparing your home for the party season.

The UK’s party season lasts from October to January and covers Halloween, Christmas, Boxing Day, New Year and more.

So, how do you get your home ready for party season 2023?

Design Within Reason

When preparing your home for the party season, it’s important that you opt for a reasonable scale of design.

Be sure that your plans do not require more materials and changes than you can afford, whether in a financial sense or in terms of the time involved and its level of practicality.

Smart Decluttering

To prepare your home for party season, you’ll need to declutter each room smartly and effectively. Again, do not try to set out tasks that are too large when considering how much free time you have.

As a starting point, you should declutter your kitchen surfaces and worktops. Simply keeping these spaces clear can make it much easier to get your kitchen party-ready.

Beyond that, you’ll want to declutter your living room, hallway and upstairs rooms.

To effectively declutter your entire home, you’ll want to consider taking the following steps:

• Set aside three colour-coded binliners; binliner #1 for items you want to keep, #2 for items you want to bin or recycle, and #3 for items you want to sell or give to charity.
• Schedule decluttering over a two-day period (perhaps a Saturday and Sunday) and ensure you do not plan too much all at once - i.e., take your time and be patient.
• Give yourself plenty of breaks (just as you would when working - so don’t overdo it.
• Once your house is successfully decluttered, it will be much easier to plan for the party season and get decorating.

Ensuring Your Living Room is Snug

Another key aspect of preparing your home for the party season is making your living room as snug as possible.

Adding texture like wool, faux fur, or silk can create an extra cosy environment for friends and family to enjoy. Ways of making your living room snug include adding rugs, low-wattage bulbs (for ambience) and fir-scented reed diffusers.

Add a Home Bar

A home bar cart is a perfect addition to your home before party season. Add to your bar cart glasses, alcoholic drinks, mixers, and water for the perfect selection to keep everyone happy.

If your mixers are suitable for drinking on their own, this will please those who don’t drink or aren’t when they are over to yours. You may also want to include a cocktail shaker in a cocktail mixing kit. Include wine glasses and brandy glasses alike for various drink servings.

Other Touches

Aside from the points already raised, you may want to consider the following touches to get your home ready for party season:

• Ensure you have all items necessary for house parties (e.g., plenty of cutlery, paper towels, sufficient bin liners, plenty of party food, and lots of suitable drinks - alcoholic and non-alcoholic alike).
• Put dishes away to make your kitchen seem as clean and welcoming as possible. Clean and polish surfaces in your kitchen and living room.
